When people hear that a home is being staged, they usually imagine the fun part: trucks arriving, furniture moving in, pillows getting fluffed and artwork going up on the walls. Staging day certainly has its share of action, but what most people don’t realize is that the real work begins long before we unload the first chair.

Almost every staging project starts with a simple phone call. A Realtor or homeowner reaches out to Spruced Interiors to talk through the property, the timeline and the goals for the sale. Every home and market is different, so that conversation helps determine which staging approach will make the most impact.
From there, we schedule an in-person walkthrough of the home. This is where strategy begins.
During the walkthrough, we look at the home through a buyer’s lens. We study the flow of each space, how rooms connect to one another and how a buyer will naturally move through the house. We also consider the home’s location, price point and competitive market. A charming coastal cottage will require a very different approach than a modern new construction.
Sometimes homeowners simply need direction. In those cases, we offer a Walk, Talk and Spruce consultation, where we walk room by room, discussing what to edit, what to highlight and what small updates could make a meaningful difference before listing.
Afterward, the seller receives a detailed style guide with clear steps they can implement on their own.
Other homes require hands-on action from Spruced Interiors.
If a property is vacant, we design a full staging plan and furnish the home through our Signature Spruce service. If the homeowners are still living in the house, we often work with their existing furniture and enhance the spaces through Occupied Spruce or our Spruced Up! styling service.
Once the scope of work is finalized, the real behind-the-scenes preparation begins. Our team selects furniture, art and accessories from inventory or sources new pieces to suit the home’s style and target buyer. Every item is chosen intentionally to support the layout and highlight the home’s best features.

Then comes staging day.
Our mornings start early, wrapping furniture and loading trucks before arriving at the property. Larger pieces come in first as we perfect the layout and ensure buyers can move effortlessly from room to room. Once the foundation is set, the details are added, like artwork, lamps, pillows and accessories that bring warmth and personality to each space.
By the time we leave, the end goal is simple: create a home that photographs beautifully, feels inviting in person and allows buyers to instantly imagine their life there.
Because the truth is, staging is never just about furniture. It’s about telling the story of a home and making buyers want to be part of it.
