Downtown businesses hope Brunswick shoppers will stay local this season
Historically, Brunswick has kicked off the season with a huge downtown event drawing between 1,000 and 1,500 people, but with gathering restrictions in place to help prevent the spread of the virus, many of those events have been canceled or gone virtual. Downtown businesses and supporters are hoping that even without it, Brunswick can be a holiday shopping destination, bringing a much-needed pandemic reprieve.

Grant will reimburse Brunswick businesses for outdoor heaters
The goal is to help businesses extend outdoor dining and shopping for as long as possible. The town has $10,000 to use and estimates it can help between 20 and 25 businesses, but so far only four have applied.

Henry and Marty Restaurant and Catering closes, another victim of COVID-19
Henry and Marty joins Wyler’s, Maine Street Sweets, Benchwarmers Sports Pub, Pedro O’Hara’s and Timeless Cottage as recent downtown closures, many of which were brought about or hastened by the coronavirus pandemic. But despite the times, there are not too many vacant storefronts along Maine Street.

Brunswick looks to grant for bulk of $3 million downtown sidewalk overhaul
According to town meeting materials, the project is still in the design phase, and staff is working to find funding, including a recent application for a $2.1 million grant through the Public Works and Economic Adjustment Assistance Program.

Pedro O’Hara’s in Brunswick shutters after 17 years as other downtown restaurants prepare to open patios
Joshua's Restaurant and Tavern, Bohemian Coffee House, Scarlet Begonias and Portland Pie Company all opened for outdoor dining Monday, but Pedro O’Hara’s, a longtime downtown fixture specializing in Mexican, Irish and American fare, announced its closing.

Brunswick business owners plan to use downtown sidewalks for outdoor dining, nix plan to block parking
According to Debora King, executive director of the Brunswick Downtown Association, it was “loud and clear” from business owners that while they were interested in using the extra space available on Brunswick’s sidewalks, they were not interested in blocking any parking spaces to do so.

Brunswick looking at options to expand outdoor dining this summer
A proposal, still in the early stages, would block a handful of parking spaces on Maine Street, creating a pedestrian walkway that would allow restaurants and retailers to spread out more on the sidewalk and maintain social distancing measures.
