A Deer Isle man, who was out on bail after being arrested last month on a charge of heroin trafficking, was arrested again Thursday for aggravated trafficking in heroin.
Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said agents from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency’s Downeast District Task Force received information that 27-year-old Kenneth Gray of Deer Isle had recently received a shipment of heroin.
McCausland said that police believed the drug was going to be sold in the Deer Isle and Stonington areas of Hancock County.
Drug agents on Wednesday afternoon located a vehicle that Gray was riding in and pulled it over in Deer Isle. Police seized 30 grams of heroin with a street value of $10,000 and over $4,000 in cash – money drug agents believe were generated by drug sales.
Gray was taken to Hancock County Jail in Ellsworth where he was charged with Class A aggravated trafficking in Schedule W drugs (heroin) and violation of conditions of release. The charge was aggravated because of the amount of heroin that was seized.
McCausland said the investigation is continuing and more arrests are likely. Gray has been denied bail pending his appearance Friday in Ellsworth Unified Court.
