Police charged two Berwick residents with heroin trafficking after they were arrested while allegedly returning from Lawrence, Massachusetts, with 20 grams of the drug.
Berwick police on Monday arrested Justin Wicks, 28, of Hubbard Road, and Sasha Wooster, 24, of Allen Street. Police said in a news release that Wicks routinely drove to Lawrence to buy heroin and then would sell it in smaller quantities to users in the area of Berwick and nearby towns in New Hampshire.
Police have been investigating Wicks’ role in the heroin trade for more than a year, police said.
“Our efforts included numerous hours of interviews, reviewing police reports, under cover purchases, countless hours of surveillance in three states along with forensic analysis of narcotics and cell phones,” said Detective Ron Lund
Police Chief Timothy Towne said the cooperation of several neighboring police agencies and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency was essential because his department lacks the resources to tackle drug trafficking networks that cover a large area.
Wicks is being held on $10,000 bail and Wooster on $5,000 bail at the York County Jail.
The charges are punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
