In a Press Herald photograph from December 1954, kids on winter break put on ice skates at the edge of Deering Oaks pond in Portland. Sixty-one years later, skaters enjoyed a newly opened refrigerated rink on Thompson’s Point, seen in the Dec. 12 photograph below.
