STANDISH — Katlin Norton’s double in the bottom of the sixth drove in the game’s only run to back the outstanding pitching of Alexis Bogdanovich as South Portland defeated Bangor 1-0 Saturday afternoon to win its first Class A state softball championship.

Bogdanovich allowed only three hits and a walk while striking out 14 Bangor batters.

Bangor’s Samantha Bedore also allowed only three hits.

But the Riots struck in the sixth.

Danica Gleason reached on a one-out error. Norton then hit a 2-0 pitch into the gap in left-center. The ball deflected off the glove of left fielder Sadie Redman and Gleason raced all the way home with the run.

Bogdanovich, who had a no-hitter for five innings, allowed a one-out single in the seventh, but got the final two outs.

South Portland  finished 19-1 while Bangor, playing in its first state title game, finished 18-2.
