Bruce Edward McAfee

PORTLAND – Bruce Edward McAfee died at home on Nov. 16, 2023 with his loving wife, Marcia, daughter, Julie McAfee Arbogast, and son-in-law Elmer Arbogast by his side. He was born in Portland on Dec. 19, 1944, to Harold and Elizabeth McAfee.

A proud graduate of Deering High School class of 1963, and B.C. (Bentley College). Bruce was proud of six years of perfect attendance at Lincoln and Deering. He supported all Deering Activities from theater to sports, and never missed a Thanksgiving Game since 1958 to 2014.

Despite lifelong asthma, Bruce played sports and ran track. He enjoyed golf at Riverside with three Dicks (Brazier, Brown and Olsen).

Bruce finally passed the CPA exam and truly enjoyed his client relationships. He continued working well beyond normal retirement; and taking CPE Courses. Bruce was fortunate to partner for many years with Richard Goodine (Goodine and McAfee CPA’s). When Richard decided to leave public accounting, Bruce was again fortunate to have a client and friend in Brad Burns and moved his practice to Forest Avenue. With his great staff of Maureen Pattee and Barbara Brown, Bruce was able to continue his practice for years.

Bruce is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marcia; his daughter, Julie Arbogast and her husband Elmer of Westbrook; and the two greatest grandsons a man could ever wish for, Anselm Edward and Dana Robert Arbogast. Other survivors include his brother, Dr. Robert McAfee of Portland, sister-in-law, Judith (Mrs. Kenneth) McAfee of Cumberland, Ann Newton (Mrs. David) of Ozona, Fla., sister and brother-in-law, Mary Weeks and William of Portland. He leaves many loving nieces, nephews; and grandnieces and grandnephews.

A celebration of Bruce’s life will be held on his birthday, Dec. 19 at the Woodford’s Club 179 Woodford St., Portland, from 12 to 4 p.m. Family will receive visitors from 12 to 1 p.m., to be followed by a celebration of life, all are welcome.
