Five University of New England players scored during a 21-4 run that started midway through the third quarter, propelling the Nor’easters to a 68-55 win over St. Joseph’s in a women’s basketball game Wednesday in Biddeford.

St. Joseph’s (2-1) led 33-30 at halftime and had a 38-34 advantage in the third quarter after a 3-pointer by Grace Ramsdell. But UNE (3-1) answered with nine straight points and outscored the Monks 22-9 in the quarter to open a 52-42 lead.

Sydney Jenisch hit two 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to help UNE stay in control.

Jordyn Franzen led UNE with 24 points. Faye Veilleux added 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists, Jenisch scored 12 points, and Kaylee Beyor had with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Ramsdell paced St. Joseph’s with 22 points. Nina Howe chipped in with 11.

MAINE AUGUSTA 74, SOUTHERN MAINE CC 63: The Moose (2-0) closed the game with a 7-0 run to seal a win over the SeaWolves (3-1) in Augusta.

Alisyn Alley and Kaeti Butterfield each scored 24 points for the Moose. Alley also had 10 rebounds, seven assists and four steals.

Jenna Philbrook led SMCC with 17 points. Maddy York scored 16.

(14) NORTH CAROLINA STATE 90, ELON 35: Aziaha James scored 20 points, Mimi Collins had a perfect night shooting while scoring 18 points, and the Wolfpack (3-0) cruised past the Phoenix (1-2) in Raleigh, North Carolina.

(16) NOTRE DAME 110, NORTHWESTERN 52: Sonia Citron scored 23 points, Hannah Hidalgo added 21, and the Fighting Irish (2-1) beat the Wildcats (2-1) to win their 29th-straight home opener.

Maddy Westbeld had 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Fighting Irish, and Anna DeWolfe of Cumberland and Kylee Watson scored 10 each.

(17) NORTH CAROLINA 62, HAMPTON 32: Deja Kelly scored 12 points, Maria Gakdeng had 10 points and nine rebounds, and the Tar Heels (3-0) beat the Pirates (0-2) in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Kelly started an 11-0 run to begin the second quarter and Paulina Paris closed it with four straight points to give the Tar Heels a 26-6 lead.

(25) OKLAHOMA 92, ALABAMA STATE 46: Skylar Vann had 16 points and nine rebounds, Sahara Williams added 14 points, and the Sooners routed the Hornets (0-4) in Norman, Oklahoma, for the first 4-0 start under third-year coach Jennie Baranczyk.

Oklahoma scored 18 straight points in the first quarter to build a 25-8 lead.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

USM 79, ST. JOSEPH’S 66: Chance Dixon and Tommy Whelan each scored 18 points to lead the Huskies (3-0) past the Monks (1-2) in Gorham.

USM also got 14 points from Justin Allen.

Remijo Wani (13 points), Wani Donato (12), John Paul Frazier (11) and Julian Llopiz (10) scored in double figures for St. Joseph’s.

BOWDOIN 79, BATES 63: James McGowan recorded 26 points and 10 rebounds, and Kevin Reeves added 17 points and 10 rebounds as the Polar Bears (1-2) defeated the Bobcats (0-2) in Lewiston.

Alex Halpern chipped in with 12 points and six assists.

Simon McCormick led Bates with 17 points. Marc Begin II scored 15 points and Brady Coyne had 12.

UNE 99, MAINE-FARMINGTON 96: Jayden Thornton broke a tie by sinking three free throws with 2:12 remaining, and the Nor’easters (3-1) edged the Beavers (3-1) in Farmington.

Adrian Torres had 25 points and six steals, and Thornton finished with 24 points for UNE. Adam Lux added 19 points and nine rebounds, and Kyle Lombardi and Dylan Crowley each scored 10 points.

Dylan Griffin led UMF with 20 points. Will Harriman and Jordan Anthony tallied 14 apiece, and Jason Reynolds posted 13 points and 10 rebounds.

SOUTHERN MAINE CC 77, MAINE AUGUSTA 62: Luke Briggs led SeaWolves (4-0) with 16 points, Thomas Martinotti added 15 and Adam Savage scored 13 in a win over the Moose (0-4) in Augusta.

Randy Vazquez chipped in with 10 points and 17 rebounds. Jay Hawkes also scored 10 points.

Zach Maturo and Isaiah Searles each tallied 14 points for Maine Augusta. Trevor Beals added 13.
