A substitute teacher is accused of assaulting a 14-year-old Gray-New Gloucester High School student at a high school soccer game Tuesday night.
Police say Robert G. Doyle, 67, of Gray grabbed the boy by the throat. The sheriff’s department was made aware of the incident after the school resource officer at Gray-New Gloucester High School was notified Wednesday, according to Capt. Kerry Joyce of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s department.
Deputies arrested Doyle and charged him with aggravated assault, a Class B crime. He was taken to Cumberland County Jail in Portland, where his bail was set at $5,000 unsecured.
Joyce said the boy’s name will not be released and no further details will be released while the investigation continues.
Gray-New Gloucester High School is part of Maine School Administrative District 15. The week of Sept. 25 is the high school’s designated homecoming week.
