For the last few years, I have become less and less comfortable observing “pig scrambles” at the local fairs. Baby pigs are released into a confined area as several excited children try to capture them and stuff them into burlap bags. These terrified, squealing piglets are grabbed, jumped on and pulled, often causing painful injuries and traumatization.

This is considered, by many well-intentioned observers, to be a form of amusement or entertainment. However, scientific research has confirmed that pigs are equal to dogs in intelligence.

It is my hope that future sponsors and spectators will come to see this activity as cruel and inhumane; and they will end this event sooner rather than later.
