All six of the men Waterville Mayor Paul LePage defeated in the GOP primary last week gathered in front of Waterville City Hall today to show their support for LePage.

Wearing LePage buttons or stickers, many of the candidates and others said they will work to get LePage elected in November.

“Paul brings the perfect experience for this job,” said Steve Abbott, who finished fourth in the seven-way race.

LePage, 61, said he will continue as mayor of Waterville until late summer and will then reassess his options. He said last week he was planning to take a leave of absence as general manager of Marden’s Surplus & Salvage during the campaign.

LePage will face Senate President Elizabeth Mitchell, a Democrat, and independents Eliot Cutler, Shawn Moody and Kevin Scott on the November ballot.
