Margaret (Swift) Blumenthal
YARMOUTH – Margaret (Swift) Blumenthal “Poppi”, 94, of Yarmouth, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2023, with her grandchildren Max and Molly by her side.
Margaret was born in Pelham Manor, N.Y. on Aug. 2, 1928, to Agnes Brown Swift and Harold Augustus Swift. After losing her mother at a young age, Margaret’s father remarried Hilarion Doyle whom Margaret got to know as her mother. Margaret was the oldest daughter of six children and took on the role of caring for her siblings.
Margaret received her bachelor’s degree in science from Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh, Pa. and went on to work as a dietician for many years. While in college Margaret was introduced to her husband, Harry Blumenthal by his sister, her roommate, Joan. They married in 1953 and started a family in Pittsburgh, Pa. where they had three sons, Alan, J.L. and Edward.
In 1983 Margaret moved to South Freeport with her husband, son Edward, and daughter-in-law, Kristina. While in Freeport, Margaret and Harry owned Annie’s Book Stop for several years and eventually retired and moved to Yarmouth.
Margaret remained socially active until the end of her life. She enjoyed being a part of the South Freeport bridge group, the Castle Investment Club, and going to Bruno’s every Friday. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and meeting her great-granddaughter.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents Agnes, Harold, and Hilarion Swift; her siblings Michael, Hilarion, Harold, Agnes, and Paul; her husband, Harry Blumenthal; her three sons, Alan, J.L.; and Edward, as well as his wife, Kristina, and their son Daniel.
Margaret is survived by her grandchildren Max, Jayne, and Molly and her husband Scott. Margaret is also survived by her great-granddaughter, Amelia; and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend an hour of visitation on Wednesday, July 26 from 2 to 3 p.m. at Lindquist Funeral Home, 1 Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth. A funeral service will follow at the funeral home at 3 p.m. with Msgr. Paul F. Stefanko, a close family friend, officiating. Interment will be on Sunday, July 30 at 11 a.m. in Westview Cemetery, 4720 Perry Highway Rd., Pittsburgh, Pa.
