PORTLAND – Samuel Joseph Somma, passed away June 3, 2023, following a brief stay at a care facility. He lived in Garner, N.C.

Samuel was born, May 6, 1932 in Portland to Samuel Henry Somma and Beatrice Mabel Berry Somma. Samuel grew up in Portland, graduated Portland High School. He served in the Navy for 20 years, proudly retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. He also worked at H.P. Hood for over 20 years as a plant manager. He was very involved with the church serving as a eucharistic minister, both at the church and the hospital, and volunteering for bean suppers.

Samuel enjoyed his family and loved to attend his kids and grandkids sporting events. He was an assistant coach for his granddaughters softball team.

Samuel is survived by his two sons, Shawn and his wife Laurie and Patrick and his wife Deborah; his grandchildren, Patrick and his wife Teryn, Elizabeth and her husband Jacob, Taylor and his wife Samantha, and Dillion; and seven great-grandchildren; as well as his brothers Jim and Rudy and sisters Joan and Diane.
