Scarborough residents will vote Tuesday, June 27, on a $54.3 million school budget.
The budget is 4.4% more than this year’s budget, an increase officials say is largely due to a $1.8 million increase in salaries and a $500,000 increase in health insurance costs.
Combined with the new $22.8 million municipal budget, Scarborough residents will see an increase in property taxes of about 4% increase if the school budget proposal passes. The tax rate would increase 61 cents from $15.39 to $16 per $1,000 of assessed value. The owner of a home assessed at $400,000 would pay $6,400 in taxes next year, $244 more than this year, according to town estimates.
Voting will take place from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Scarborough High School.
