Carson Black struck out 14 while throwing a five-inning perfect game in a doubleheader opener, and Grady Cummings pitched a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts in the second game as Sacopee Valley remained undefeated by winning twice against Maranacook on Saturday in Hiram, 10-0 and 11-1.
Maranacook (3-5) had just one base runner – a bloop single by Jay McLaughlin leading off the second game.
Black finished Game 1 with 13 consecutive strikeouts. Caleb Vacchiano put the mercy rule into effect by hitting a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth.
The second game also went just five innings.
FALMOUTH 7, KENNEBUNK 2: Freshman Jacoby Porter hit his first home run, added two RBI singles and pitched the final two innings in relief to lead the Navigators (5-1) past the Rams (3-3) in Falmouth.
Porter’s home run, a solo shot, made it 2-0 after one inning. The Navigators added four runs in the second to break it open.
Josh Polchies and Brennan Rumpf each had two hits. Mitch Ham earned the victory in relief.
Kennebunk got two hits apiece from Quinn MacDonald and Drew Sliwkowski.
CHEVERUS 6, WESTBROOK 3: A five-run first inning was enough for the Stags (5-1) in a win over the Blue Blazes (1-4) in Portland.
Matt Connor hit a home run and a single and scored twice for Cheverus. Liam Backman added two RBI, and Rilan Smith struck out seven over 4 2/3 innings, giving up two hits and one earned run.
Ben Eugley went the distance for Westbrook, allowing five hits and four earned runs.
MARSHWOOD 6, PORTLAND 4: Tyler Hussey went 2 for 4 with a pair of RBI and pitched the seventh inning for a save as the Hawks (4-2) held off the Bulldogs (1-5) at Hadlock Field.
Charlie Hudson went the first six innings, allowing four runs on eight hits and with seven strikeouts, while going 2 for 4 at the plate with an RBI.
Samuel Payne had two hits for Portland.
SOUTH PORTLAND 5, THORNTON ACADEMY 3: Nick Swain’s two-out, two-run single snapped a 3-3 tie in the fifth inning, lifting the Red Riots (4-2) over the Golden Trojans (3-4) in Saco.
Nolan Hobbs drove in Andrew Heffernan to tie the game, then stole second and scored along with Richie Gilboy on Swain’s sharp single to left.
Thornton grabbed a 3-2 lead in the third inning on a two-run double by AJ Thibodeau and an RBI single by Jeremy Chessie.
Hobbs went the distance on the mound for South Portland, allowing only three hits while striking out eight. Josh Kopetski took the loss despite striking out 11 in five innings.
Heffernan had two hits for South Portland. Gilboy had a double and two runs scored.
CAPE ELIZABETH 3, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 2: Three pitchers combined on a two-hitter for the Capers (6-0) in a victory over the Patriots (1-7) in Gray.
Owen Tighe struck out nine and walked five over five innings. Andy Choi and Gabe Harmon each worked an inning of relief.
Gray-New Gloucester got six strong innings from Abe Bouchard.
WELLS 4, POLAND 3: Spencer Carpenter’s two-run single capped a three-run rally in the bottom of the seventh as the Warriors (6-1) beat the Knights (3-4) in Wells.
Carpenter, Noah Collins and Chase Trudeau each had two hits for Wells. One of Collins’ hits was a double.
Keith Ramsey took over on the mound with nobody out in the first inning and allowed just three hits and one run the rest of the way to earn the win.
Gene Grant led Poland with two hits.
SKOWHEGAN 8, CAMDEN HILLS 1: Silas Tibbetts fired a one-hitter as the River Hawks (6-1) beat the Windjammers (1-4) in Rockport.
Tibbetts struck out seven and walked one. Brian Leonard homered for the only Camden Hills hit.
Tyler Annis had two hits for Skowhegan, including a double. Brendan Dunlap walked three times and Noah McMahon twice.
GARDINER 5, MORSE 2: Theron Corliss was 3 for 3 with two RBI as the Tigers (2-4) won at Gardiner.
Alex Roy was 2 for 2 with two walks and two runs scored, while Chase Burgess drove home three runs. Pitcher Gavin White went the distance, allowing eight hits while striking out four and walking two.
Gavin Baillargeon homered for Morse (2-6), Ashford Hays had three hits, and Calin Gould chipped in with two.
LACROSSE
LEWISTON 9, KENNEBUNK 8: Cody Dionne led Lewiston (5-2) with three goals and an assist, and the Blue Devils held off the Rams (2-4) in Lewiston.
Brock Rancourt finished with nine saves as the Blue Devils withstood Kennebunk’s fourth-quarter comeback after building a 9-5 lead through three quarters.
Jake Washburn had four goals and two assists for Kennebunk. Kellen Connor added two goals and two assists.
SOUTH PORTLAND 6, WAYNFLETE 5: The Red Riots (6-1) scored four goals in the third quarter and held off a furious Waynflete rally to beat the Flyers (4-2) in Portland.
Waynflete went ahead 2-0 on second-quarter goals from Jacob Woodman and Spencer Kline, but Josh Soucy answered for the Red Riots late in the first half.
South Portland then got third-quarter goals from Brady Demers, Beckett Mehlhorn, Jack Dreifus and Tobey Lappin.
Lucas Mehlhorn made it 6-2 early in the fourth before the Flyers answered with two goals from Roan Hopkins and another from Liam Anderson.
Ben Kieu made 13 saves for the Red Riots. Waynflete’s Avi Israel stopped 13 shots.
WELLS 9, BIDDEFORD 6: Eli Steere scored three goals and set up two others as the Warriors (6-2) beat the Tigers (5-2) in Wells.
Gavyn Petrie and Hayden Bidell each added two goals, Brody Maxon and Nathan Bolduc also scored, and Riley Murphy made 11 saves for Wells.
Biddeford got two goals apiece from Patrick O’Driscoll, Wyatt Labonte and Owen Sylvain. Tigers goalie Brycen Wolfahrt stopped 12 shots.
PORTLAND 13, CHEVERUS 4: Andy Marvin recorded six goals and three assists for the Bulldogs (3-3) as they cruised past the host Stags (2-3).
Louis Thurston contributed three goals and four assists, and Harry Rubin added three goals and two assists.
Portland goalie Clyde Spencer made eight saves.
