A two-week search for an escaped federal fugitive ended today when Wayne Collamore was arrested at Owl’s Head Light State Park.

Noel March of the U.S. Marshal Service said in a release that Collamore, 60, was arrested without incident around 2 p.m., by Deputy U.S. Marshals.

Collamore was sleeping at the wheel of a car that had been reported stolen from Round Pond earlier in the day, March said.

Federal law enforcement and agencies from throughout the mid-coast had been looking for Collamore, who was has been described as a career criminal, since May 28th when he walked away from a federal halfway house in Portland.

Collamore was serving the remainder of a prison sentence for a felon in possession of a firearm conviction, March said.

Collamore was spotted June 3 in Nobleboro and fled into the woods. A large manhunt ensued.

Collamore was considered a danger to the public.

“This is just another example of local, state and federal law enforcement working together to bring violent offenders to justice,” March said.
