Caroline Hartley scored 11 of her 16 points in the fourth quarter as fifth-seeded Scarborough defeated No. 4 South Portland 50-34 in a Class AA South girls’ basketball quarterfinal Wednesday at South Portland’s Beal Gymnasium.

The Red Storm (9-10) will take on No. 1 Thornton Academy in the semifinals next Wednesday at Cross Insurance Arena.

South Portland (9-10) got out to a fast start, as Anna Brown made three 3-pointers for an 11-6 lead. Scarborough, though, answered with an 8-0 run to take the lead for good.

The Red Storm led 16-15 after one quarter, then forced seven South Portland turnovers in the second quarter and held the Red Riots without a point for nearly seven minutes as they stretched their advantage to 26-19 at halftime.

Four points from Brown late in the third helped South Portland cut the deficit to 31-28 heading to the fourth quarter, but the Red Storm clinched the win at the foul line.

Emerson Flaker chipped in with 12 points and Ellie Rumelhart had 10 for Scarborough.

Brown led all scorers with 18 points before fouling out late.

OXFORD HILLS 56, PORTLAND 33: The top-seeded Vikings (18-1) clamped down after a close first quarter and rolled past the eighth-seeded Bulldogs (3-16) in a Class AA North quarterfinal in Paris.

Oxford Hills advances to face No. 4 Hampden Academy (11-8) in the semifinals next week at the Cross Insurance Arena.

Portland hit three 3-pointers and led 17-16 after one quarter, but Oxford Hills held the Bulldogs to 16 points combined over the next three quarters.

Sierra Carson, who earlier Wednesday was named a semifinalist for the Miss Maine Basketball award, led all scorers with 17 points. Ella Pelletier added 14, Molly Corbett had 10 and Maddy Miller contributed nine.

Baleria Yugu finished with 12 points for Portland.

YORK 43, LEAVITT 21: The 10th-seeded Wildcats (8-11) used a 15-4 advantage in the third quarter to pull away from the No. 7 Hornets (7-12) in a Class A South prelim at Turner.

MiKayla Kortes led York with 10 points.

HAMPDEN ACADEMY 46, WINDHAM 39: Bella McLaughlin scored 13 of her 21 points in the second half to power the fifth-seeded Broncos (11-8) past the fourth-seed Eagles (11-8) in a Class AA North quarterfinal in Windham.

Lucy Wiles added 13 points. Caitlin Murphy had seven.

Stella Jarvais led Windham with 12 points and Neve Ledbetter tallied 11.

YARMOUTH 61, OAK HILL 13: Cate King paced a balanced offense with 13 points as the eighth-seeded Clippers (8-11) cruised past the No. 9 Raiders (8-11) in a Class B South prelim in Yarmouth.

Delia MacDonald added 12 points and Lauren Keaney and Neena Panozzo each chipped in with nine for Yarmouth, which next faces top-seeded Oceanside in the quarterfinals Saturday at the Portland Expo.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

SOUTH PORTLAND 47, SANFORD 34: Jaelen Jackson, Gabe Galarraga and Ben Smith all scored in double figures as the second-seeded Red Riots (16-3) eliminated the No. 7 Spartans (5-14) in Class AA South quarterfinal at South Portland.

The Red Riots will face No. 6 Scarborough in the semifinals next Thursday at Cross Insurance Arena.

The Spartans took a 13-10 lead after one quarter, but consecutive Jackson putbacks late in the second gave the Red Riots the lead for good. It was 19-17 at halftime.

Galarraga scored six points and Jackson had five in the third quarter as South Portland extended its lead to 32-25.

Jackson then put it away with eight of his 17 points in the fourth.

Galarraga finished with 11 points and Smith added 10.

Sanford got 10 points from Makai Bougie and nine from Tanner McCann.

MADISON 52, WAYNFLETE 34: Callan Franzose had 25 points and 10 rebounds as the eighth-seeded Bulldogs (12-7) beat the No. 9 Flyers (11-8) in a Class C South prelim in Madison.

Franzose sank five 3-pointers. Up 25-17 at the half, Madison broke the game open with a 17-2 run in the third quarter.

Deacon Murray added 11 points for Madison.

Nico Kirby scored 15 points for Waynflete.

TRAIP ACADEMY 68, BOOTHBAY 53: Ben Hawkes scored 19 points, and David Durling and Zac Foye each added 15 as the 10th-seeded Rangers (8-11) beat the No. 7 Seahawks (11-8) in a Class C South prelim at Boothbay Harbor.

Traip advances to play No. 2 Monmouth Academy in the quarterfinals Monday at the Augusta Civic Center.

Gryffin Kristan paced Boothbay with 21 points. Kayden Ames scored 17.

BOYS’ HOCKEY

EDWARD LITTLE 3, CHEVERUS/YARMOUTH 0: Cassidy Campbell scored twice, Tate Morse added an empty-net goal and Gage Ducharme made 21 saves as the Red Eddies (13-3) shut out Cheverus/Yarmouth (10-4-2) in Auburn.

Campbell opened the scoring in the first period, then made it 2-0 early in the third.

Cheverus/Yarmouth goalie Neal McQuarrie stopped 20 shots.

SCARBOROUGH 5, ST. DOMINIC 4: Daemon Bobbin broke a 4-4 tie in the second period, and the Red Storm (11-5) held off the Saints (7-10) in Auburn.
