BIDDEFORD — Maine House Speaker Ryan Fecteau, D-Biddeford, took part in Full Plates, Full Potential’s School Meals Celebration Week by visiting the Biddeford High School cafeteria during a recent lunch hour. Fecteau’s participation helped the organization highlight the importance of school meals while recognizing that their long-term future has been secured through Maine’s historic School Meals for All law.
“Maine is leading the nation, ensuring that no child goes hungry at school ever again,” said Fecteau. “School meals are as essential as buses or books and this year the Legislature was able to provide them at no cost to all Maine students. I am so proud that we were able to support this critical initiative that saves families money, takes stigma out of the cafeteria, and provides more meals to more of our students, so they can learn and grow.”
Full Plates, Full Potential has a mission of ending child hunger in Maine by partnering with schools and communities to create sustainable systems change through investment and advocacy. Fecteau was a lead sponsor of LD 1679, An Act Regarding Expanding Access to Free School Meals.
