SCARBOROUGH — Incumbent Democrat Sophie Warren, is running against Republican Lisa Markowski, both of Scarborough, for the House District 124 seat in the Nov. 8 election. House District 124 includes part of Scarborough.
Warren, 26 is single. She is a legal assistant and earned a bachelor’s degree in International Relations from Brandeis University. She is serving her first term in the Maine State House.
In an email, Warren said she is running for reelection because, “whether it’s climate change, fighting for reproductive justice, or strengthening our healthcare system to serve all Maine people — I am committed to be your advocate in Augusta. What led me to run two years ago was the responsibility I felt to protect our natural resources from the threat of climate change for future generations of Maine people. I believe climate change is a fundamental threat to us all, and that we have not only an ethical responsibility for protecting our environment, but that these measures have the capacity to drive healthcare and economic issues for our future generations. I believe in making strong investments into renewable energy initiatives to reduce carbon emissions, ensuring our economic security and protecting our natural resources.”
She said she believes her constituents should reelect her because “Scarborough deserves a strong voice, a positive outlook, and collaborative leadership to address the important issues we face. If re-elected, my commitment remains that there is no one will work harder on your behalf.”
Lisa Markowski did not respond to repeated efforts to contact her.
