The Waterborough Historical Society will host a program detailing “The History of Saco River Telegraph & Telephone” at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Society-owned former Grange Hall at 31 West Road.
Brent Hill, former president of the Buxton-Hollis Historical Society, will present the history along with a slideshow and a show and tell of historic items.

WELLS
Summer concert series hosts final performance
The Wells Summer Concert series will wrap its 2022 season with a free performance by the Finestkind Country Band at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Hope Hobbs Gazebo at Wells Harbor Community Park, 331 Harbor Road. Finestkind is a southern Maine band, featuring the best of traditional country music.

All welcome to library’s cribbage game night
The Wells Public Library is hosting a cribbage game night for at 6 p.m. Tuesday, at 1434 Post Road.
Players of all ages and abilities are welcome to come participate or watch others play, learn the game, or just kibbitz.

Buy some mums to support Tate House Museum
Tate House Museum is taking online orders through Sept. 9 for its Chrysanthemum Fundraiser.
The mums are available in five vibrant colors this year: bronze/orange, lavender/pink, red/maroon, yellow, or white. The cost of each 9-inch pot is $10. Those orders can be picked up curbside from noon to 3 p.m. Sept. 11 at the museum, located at 1267 Westbrook St., just in time for fall decorating.
Payment options include credit card, debit card or PayPal. Order confirmations and payment receipts will arrive by email.

Make the most of waning summer with outdoor concert
The Camden Public Library will host a free concert by the Bay Winds North Wind Ensemble at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Camden Amphitheatre. The ensemble, based in Rockland, is comprised of musicians from high school age to retirees from the midcoast area. Bring a lawn chair or blanket for comfortable seating.

CUMBERLAND
Collection event seeks fans, working lamps, masks
A recycling collection event will be held from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Tuttle Road Community Church at 52 Tuttle Road.
The church is asking for the following items: Used COVID masks, constructed of paper – such as surgical masks, N95 masks and dust masks (no cloth) – used working lamps that will go to Furniture Friends; and used working fans that will go to Maine Needs to help individuals during hot weather.

Astronomy club to discuss James Webb Telescope
Southern Maine Astronomers monthly club meeting will be held via Zoom at 7 p.m Thursday, offering the program “Creating the James Webb Telescope.”
All are welcome to attend the meeting that will feature a presentation by Gary Golnik, former optical systems engineer for the NASA James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). Gary will discuss the launch of the telescope and provide a behind the scenes look into the creation of JWST during his 20 years at NASA.
A tour of the constellations Vulpecula, Sagitta and Equuleus also is planned.
