Museum has new exhibit, walking tours
Brick Store Museum will offer the following programs this week at 117 Main St., unless otherwise noted.
Tuesday is a free admission and drop-in art day at the gallery from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors can drop by to help create a collaborative artwork from needle felting. No experience necessary. Also on Tuesday, visitors are invited to help the museum create a Kindness Rock Garden. Participants will be writing positive and motivational messages on painted rocks to promote kindness in the community and add the rocks to the garden.
At 2 p.m. Thursday, join a live Zoom discussion with artist Salley Mavor, whose exhibition “What a Relief: The Art of Salley Mavor” is now on display. Tickets start at $10. Register in advance by calling 985-4802 or visit brickstoremuseum.org.
Two historic walking tours are planned Saturday, the first is Kennebunk Beach history, starting at 9 a.m. at Trinity Chapel, Railroad Avenue, Kennebunk Beach. Learn the history of the development of Kennebunk Beach as a tourist destination. It’s about a 1-mile loop that takes 60 to 90 minutes, led by trained tour guide.
The second walk is a historic district tour, starting at noon from Brick Store Museum, at 117 Main St. Explore the history of the elaborate and historic homes that line Kennebunk’s Summer Street neighborhood in downtown Kennebunk. Led by a museum tour guide.

WELLS
Library offers two adult programs
Wells Public Library will offer the following adult programs this week at 1434 Post Road, unless otherwise noted:
• The library is partnering with the Astronomical Society of Northern New England (ASNNE) for a stargazing outing using telescopes at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the ASNNE Observatory in Kennebunk. Join us to view interesting features of the moon. Registration is required.
• An informative session on “Medicare 101,” with Trina Moskal will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday. Moskal will talk about how to navigate complex decisions and all the available options for the over 65 crowd.
These events are free and open to the public.

Rock out to music from the ’50s and ’60s
The Rockin’ Daddios will perform music of the 1950s and ’60s beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday as part of the Wells Harbor Summer Concert Series at the Hope Hobbs Gazebo at Wells Harbor Community Park, 331 Harbor Road.
Admission is free (though contributions are accepted). There is abundant park bench type seating. Attendees are welcomed to bring their own blanket, folding chair and/or a picnic.

Chili cook-off returns for 21st year
The Wells Chamber of Commerce will host it’s 21st annual Chili-Fest from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Wells Junior High on Route 1.
The “Joe Harvey Invitational” cook-off, sanctioned by the International Chili Society, is among the last events available for “chiliheads” to qualify to compete in the World Championship that will be held this September in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Entrants for this cook-off have come from as far away as Florida, Nevada and Illinois.
The cook-off will feature four categories: red chili made with beef and red ripened chili peppers; green chili (verde) made with either chicken or pork and green chili peppers; homestyle (traditional chili with beans); along with a youth homestyle division and salsa. Cash prizes and plaques will be awarded to the winners along with bragging rights.
The chili cooks will be bringing their chili to be served for the “People’s Choice” competition with a $250 first prize. Ballots for “People’s Choice” are included in the “tasting kits” available for sale.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Wells Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Fund.

Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland celebrates ‘Dog Days of Summer’
Town & Country Federal Credit Union is partnering with the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland (ARLGP) to celebrate “DOGUST,” a month-long dog adoption awareness campaign being held every Tuesday and Thursday in August and featuring ARLGP dogs that are looking for new homes.
Those dogs are highlighted on the social media channels of Town & Country and ARLGP. In addition, the credit union is making a $1,000 contribution to support the ARLGP’s mission and community services.

5K and kids fun run benefits food pantry
The St. Max 5K Road Race and Kids Fun Run will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, at 150 Black Point Road. Same day registration starts at 4:30 p.m., with the free Kids Fun Run starting at 5:30 p.m.
This event is being sponsored by Knights of Columbus Council No. 11747 as a benefit for the South Portland Food Cupboard.

Learn Hebrew, Jewish history with new course
The Rohr Jewish Learning Institute (JLI) has developed “Read it in Hebrew,” an innovative Hebrew reading course with interactive flashcards and its own app for remote learning. The program utilizes the latest technology to combine timeless learning methods with contemporary psychology for a course guaranteed to be effective in only five sessions.
This course will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, in-person and on Zoom.
The program is geared toward people at all levels of Jewish education, including those without any prior experience. Students get a glimpse of the profound depth of the Hebrew language, including brief Talmudic and Kabbalistic explanations of the letters. Enrollment is open to the public, and attendees don’t have to be affiliated with a synagogue, temple, or other house of worship.

DENMARK
Music, arts festival fun for whole family
Denmark Arts Center will present its Dam Jam Revival outdoor music and arts festival from noon to 8:30 p.m. Sunday.
This year, the focus is family with kids art, stilt-walkers, traditional crafts, good music, and a fun selection of food trucks.
Featured bands include Bee Parks & the Hornets at 2 p.m., Jason Spooner Band at 5 p.m. and The Mallett Brothers Band at 7 p.m.
The Kids Area includes the ArtVan, Common Roots Studio, Neveah Dance Circus. Kids can design their own T-shirts, make their own hula-hoop, be a fly tyer, make spin art, and make their own instrument. Kids 12 and under are free. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased online at denmarkarts.org/events.
If the event is called due to inclement weather, The Mallett Brothers Band will play inside the Denmark Arts Center that night. VIP tickets are available for $40 for advance orders.

WISCASSET
New Impressionism exhibit opens
The new exhibit “Around the World in 22 Days” opens from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Wiscasset Bay Gallery, 75 Maine St., in conjunction with the Wiscasset Art Walk.
Light refreshments will be served. This late summer exhibition focuses on Impressionism from across the globe, including works from Egypt, Greece, Russia, France, Hungary, Italy, Holland and Switzerland.
The show will run through Sept. 15.
