Gus Wing scored from second on Kempton Von Glinsky-Gregroire’s infield grounder in the bottom of the eighth as third-seeded Freeport edged No. 14 Gray-New Gloucester 2-1 Tuesday in a Class B South first-round baseball game at Freeport.

Gray-New Gloucester (4-13) took the lead on Ian Libby fielder’s choice in the top of the third, but Freeport (13-4) answered with an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth.

Anthony Prescott had a pair of hits for the Patriots.

FRYEBURG ACADEMY 2, POLAND 0: Noah Grant pitched a one-hitter with five strikeouts and no walks as the 10th-seeded Raiders (6-11) upset the seventh-seeded Knights (9-8) in Poland in the first round.

Ethan Lord had a two-run single in the first for Fryeburg and Bryce Richardson hit a double. The Raiders move on to the B South quarterfinals on Thursday.

CAPE ELIZABETH 5, WELLS 0: Owen Tighe lined an RBI single to break a scoreless tie in the bottom of the sixth and Aidan Connelly followed with a two-run double as the fifth-seeded Capers (10-7) downed the 12th-seeded Warriors (5-12) in a first-round matchup at Cape Elizabeth.

Gabe Harmon had three hits for Cape Elizabeth and Antonio Dell’Aquilla added a pair of hits.

Curtis Sullivan threw a three-hitter and struck out nine for the Capers.

GREELY 8, LINCOLN ACADEMY 0: The top-seeded Rangers (16-1) scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and broke the contest open with five in the fifth, courtesy of a solo home run by Marky Axelsen II and a three-run blast from Mason Kelso, as they cruised by the 16th-seeded Eagles (3-13) at Cumberland in a prelim.

Zach Johnston got the victory, throwing five perfect innings, striking out 11.

YARMOUTH 8, GARDINER 2: Andrew Cheever and Jack McCosh each had two hits and two RBI for the fourth-seeded Clippers (11-6) as they topped the 13th-seeded Tigers (2-15) in a first-round game at Yarmouth.

Matt Gautreau and Matt Robichaud each had two singles for Yarmouth, which will face fifth-seeded Cape Elizabeth in the quarterfinals on Thursday. Curtis Sulivan struck out five in two innings for the save.

Theron Corliss had a double and a single for Gardiner.

LAKE REGION 1, ERSKINE ACADEMY 0: The 15th-seeded Lakers (5-12) grabbed a lead in the top of the first inning on Matthew Aker’s RBI single and it held up as they upended the second-seeded Eagles (13-3) in a prelim at South China.

Brock Gibbons threw a three-hit shutout, striking out nine for Lake Region.

Grady Hotham took the loss for Erskine Academy, surrendering a run on five hits, fanning 10.

CLASS A SOUTH BASEBALL

THORNTON ACADEMY 20, BIDDEFORD 0: Noah Frink was 3 for 3 with a pair of home runs and seven RBI as the top-seeded Golden Trojans (16-1) topped the 16th-seeded Tigers (3-15) in five innings in a  first-round game at Saco.

Brayden Williams had a triple and a single with four RBI, and Brady Graffam and Christian Schaffer chipped in with two hits apiece.

Cody Bowker picked up the win, throwing the first three scoreless innings, allowing a single, fanning five.

CLASS A NORTH BASEBALL

EDWARD LITTLE 5, CAMDEN HILLS 4: Campbell Cassidy hit a two-run triple in the seventh inning to give the seventh-seeded Red Eddies (9-8) a win over the 10th-ranked Windjammers (7-10) in a prelim game at Augusta.

Brody Keefe and Braden Paradie scored the winning runs on Cassidy’s triple to right field.

Edward Little next faces second-ranked Oxford Hills (14-2) on Thursday.

The soft-spoken Cassidy was modest about his stunning triple.

The Windjammers scored twice in the first inning on RBI singles by Hunter Norton and Lucas Moody.

The Red Eddies responded with two runs in the bottom of the first on a two-run single by Kamden Masselli.

Camden Hills went ahead with two runs in the fourth on Matt Kremin’s two-run single.

The Red Eddies got a run in the sixth inning when Drew Smith scored on a passed ball.

LISBON 5, BOOTHBAY/WISCASSET 2: The top-seeded Greyhounds (17-0) were forced to rally to beat the No. 17 Seahawks (3-15) in Lisbon.

Boothbay/Wiscasset had just one hit, but Peter Cusamano made the most of it by driving in one of the Seahawks’ two runs in the inning. Lisbon scored one run in the fourth and another in the fifth to tie the game, then scored three in the sixth.

Mason Booker, Levi Tibbetts and Nick Ferrence split time on the mound for the Greyhounds, combining for 14 strikeouts.

Riley Turner and Aiden Parker each had two hits and an RBI for Lisbon, and Ethan Brown also drove in a run.
