The northbound lanes of I-295 in Richmond will be closed for four days next week for repairs to a culvert.
The Maine Department of Transportation said the northbound lanes will be closed beginning at noon on Sunday and should re-open by the morning commute on Wednesday. However, MDOT cautioned that the repair work is weather-dependent and the schedule could change.
Speed limits will be reduced by 15 to 25 mph as traffic is channeled into one lane approaching Exit 43, where drivers will have to exit the highway and follow routes 197, 138 and 201 until they re-enter the highway at the Exit 49 interchange in Gardiner.
MDOT said speed limits also will be lowered along the detour and police will be stationed to make sure the lower speeds are obeyed along what it called “the rural, residential detour” route.
