Scarborough senior Lillian Finley, joined by her teammates and Coach Kerry Mariello, is all smiles after signing her National Letter of Intent Monday to attend and play field hockey at Division II Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester next year. Finley, who has also starred for the Red Storm in ice hockey, was an SMAA all-star and an all-state selection last fall.
“It’s so exciting,” said Finley. “I’ve wanted to play in college for a few years now. (SNHU) was up there from the start. It was the right fit. The campus is so pretty and the coach has been so nice.
Mariello said that Finley’s commitment to her craft paid big dividends.
“‘Lil’ is the epitome of what you want from a player,” Mariello said. “It’s great to see all of her time, sacrifice and work put in being paid off. She’ll excel at the next level and I’m excited to see that. She’s just a very intelligent, versatile player. She’ll be a tough, tough hole to fill, but she’s inspired a lot of young players and they’ll want to be the next ‘Lil.'”
