Re: “Bill Nemitz: Tucker Carlson is Maine’s official state humiliation” (Feb. 27, Page B1):
In his 25 years of incisive writing, Bill Nemitz has elevated himself to the stature of America’s leading opinion columnist. Together with Editorial Page Editor Greg Kesich, he has propelled the Press Herald to challenge the grip of The New York Times and the Jeff Bezos-owned Washington Post on national thought leadership.
It’s no surprise, then, that when cable news network opinion show host Tucker Carlson subtly employed sarcasm and irony to set a rhetorical trap for viewers, when he seemingly praised Vladimir Putin, Nemitz adroitly avoided the snare, and exposed Carlson’s shameful love of the Russian dictator. Thanks to decades of Nemitz’s example in critical thought, his always-wary readership sniffed the rat just moments after his column on the subject appeared.
Similarly, Hillary Clinton, considered America’s smartest woman (though Vice President Kamala Harris is neck and neck), chastened Donald Trump for his shameless observations on Putin’s “genius” in cleverly outfoxing Biden and Europe. She knows you don’t have to be a genius to best Biden, and is confident she would be just as competent in handling the situation if she was in his place. Which is why Democrats are of one mind in their belief that we have Putin and Russia right where they want us.
