Dr. John R. Phythyon Ph.D.
KENNEBUNK – Dr. John Raymond Phythyon, Ph.D., 79, a native of Dayton, Ohio and resident of Kennebunk, died Feb. 11, 2022. He spent the majority of his academic career at St. Norbert College DePere, Wis. He retired as Professor Emeritus in 2007 after more than 30 years of teaching. After retiring to Maine, John returned to teaching as an adjunct professor at both Southern Maine Community College and the University of New England.
Preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Hazel (Thompson) Phythyon, he is survived by his wife, Nancy (Stansfield) Phythyon; his children John Phythyon Jr. of Columbus, Ohio, and David Phythyon and his partner Barbara Ascher of Madison, Wis.; his granddaughter, Onna Phythyon of Lawrence, Kan.; his sister, Judith Burton and husband George of Corona, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
In keeping with John’s wishes, there will be no funeral services.
