Quick starts in both halves helped Portland defeat Falmouth, 47-44, in a boys’ basketball contest Friday night at the Expo.

The Bulldogs (7-3) got 16 points from Wani Donato. They shot to a 14-5 lead after one quarter, as Spencer Cross scored six points

Falmouth (6-2), playing its first game in more than two weeks because of a COVID pause, fell behind by 10 early in the second quarter before closing the first half on a 7-0 run and pulling within 19-16 at the break on a tip-in by Brady Coyne.

Portland then opened the second half on a 12-0 run, which featured seven points from Donato, a three-point play from Cross and two free throws from Jeissey Khamis. After the Navigators scored nine straight, Donato’s layup at the horn made it 33-25 heading to the fourth.

Falmouth got as close as one, 45-44, on a Zach Morrill layup with 11 seconds to go. James Johnson made two free throws for the final margin.

Cross and Pitia Donato added 10 points apiece for the Bulldogs.

The Navigators were led by Coyne with 11 points. Judd Armstrong and Morrill each added nine.

GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 61, POLAND 34: Nate Hebert hit three 3-pointers and finished with 17 points as the Patriots (9-3) topped the Knights (5-6) in Gray.

Anthony Prescott added 12 points.

Poland was led by Joey Levesque with 12 points.

LEWISTON 57, SCARBOROUGH 38: Yasuf Dakane scored nine of his 16 points in the third quarter to help the Blue Devils (8-3) pull away from the Red Storm (0-9) at Scarborough.

Dakane sparked a 21-10 run in the third that extended Lewiston’s 29-16 halftime lead to 50-26.

David Omasombo added 10 points for Lewiston, which had 10 players score. Reid Deniso scored 14 points and Blake Harris chipped in with 11 for Scarborough.

MARSHWOOD 45, MORSE 35: Aidan Sullivan scored 12 of his 19 points in the first half to help the Hawks (7-2) pull away from the Shipbuilders (4-4) at South Berwick.

Trevor Wozny added 13 points for Marshwood, which led 25-15 at halftime and wasn’t threatened.

Sawyer Stead led the Shipbuilders with nine points.

NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 40, ST. DOMINIC 38: Joaquim Bila had nine points and five steals for NYA, Eliott Oney put up nine points, seven rebounds and five assists, and Bryce Poulin added seven points and 10 rebounds as the Panthers (4-5) downed the Saints (7-2) in Yarmouth.

Logan Welch scored 12 points for St. Dom’s.

DIRIGO 80, BOOTHBAY 61: The Cougars (9-3) made 11 shots from behind the 3-point line in a victory over the Seahawks (4-6) at Boothbay Harbor.

Nathaniel Wainwright hit four 3s in the first half and finished with 18 points. Trenton Hutchinson scored 19 points and Charlie Houghton added 15.

Gryffin Kristan led Boothbay with 30 points, including 19 in the fourth quarter.

SANFORD 68, KENNEBUNK 58: Tanner McCann scored 27 points and the Spartans (6-2) used long-range shooting to defeat the Rams (5-4) in Kennebunk.

McCann had eight of Sanford’s 15 3-pointers. Connor Curio (17 points) had four 3s and Makai Bougie (12 points) finished with three 3s.

Ty Kane led the Rams with 16 points, including five 3s. Landon Schwartzman added 14 points and Keegan Andrews followed with 11. Schwartzman and Andrews combined for five 3s. Joseph Kiezulas had 10 points.

YORK 70, TRAIP ACADEMY 34: J.P. Frazier scored 21 points, Trevor Parker added 18, and Kevin Burke had 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Wildcats (6-2) in a win over the Rangers (3-9) at Kittery.

THORNTON ACADEMY 63, GORHAM 61: The Golden Trojans (9-2) scored 18 straight points in the second quarter, then held on to defeat the Rams (4-8) in Saco.

Gorham led 17-12 after the first quarter before Thornton surged into a 34-26 halftime lead. Though the Rams continually threatened in the second half, they never tied or went ahead.

William Davies scored 19 points and Braden Camire added 12 for Thornton.

Ashton Leclerc and Caden Smith each scored 19 points for Gorham, both with five 3-pointers.

MASSABESIC 61, NOBLE 38: James Saccuzzo scored 18 points and Jake Raymond had 17 as the Mustangs (2-6) rolled past the Knights (0-10) at Waterboro.

Jamier Rose scored 16 points for Noble.

CAPE ELIZABETH 65, GREELY 51: Jake Frame scored 20 points, including four 3-pointers as the Capers (7-5) handled the Rangers (4-5) in Cape Elizabeth.

Evan Reeves added 15 points and Will Bove had 11 for the Capers, who led 16-6 after one quarter.

Andrew St. Hilaire paced Greely with 21 points, followed by Dee Martin Coyne with 12.
