Christmas card contest winner
Greta Grant, who attends St. Joseph Parish in Bridgton, is the winner of the grade 9-12 category in this year’s Diocese of Portland’s Christmas Card Art Contest for her rendition of Mary and baby Jesus. The winners’ creations will appear on Christmas cards that will be sent to 2021 Catholic Appeal donors and will also receive a special gift blessed by Bishop Robert Deeley. Holiday festivities include Santa Shuffle, parade, craft fair
Bridgton is kicking off the festive season with a variety of events Saturday, Dec. 4. At 8 a.m. the 5K Santa Shuffle will start and a Kids Fun Run will begin at 9 a.m. to raise funds for Bridge Crossing Academy on Wayside Avenue. The academy is behind Bridgton Books near the winter farmers market. Stop by the craft fair at the Bridgton Town Hall between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., then join the Holiday Block Party starting at 4:30 p.m. Witness the Christmas tree lighting on Main Street at 5:30 p.m., followed by The March of the Toys Parade at 6 p.m. Dress warmly and come out to start the holiday fun!
Tree sale, raffle
It’s a sure sign the holidays are on the way when the Bridgton Center Village Firemen’s Association holds its annual Christmas tree sale. This year they will be selling Maine-grown trees in the Food City parking lot from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, from 3-6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Christmas Cash 50/50 raffle tickets and “I Support Bridgton Fire Department” T-shirts will also be for sale to help shoppers with their holiday gift lists.
Lights for loved ones
The Rufus Porter Museum is starting the season with its fifth annual Celebration Tree. People can honor their loved ones and remember those who are no longer with us for $10 per dedication. The lights on the tree will memorialize those who are honored and their names will be printed on the museum’s social media pages during the month of December. Parents Night Out
The Bridgton Rec Department is offering parents and guardians a holiday night out. Drop the kids off at the Town Hall between 6 and 10 p.m. Dec 10 and 17, and they will be fed dinner and entertained with crafts, a movie and other activities while the adults do some shopping or attend their own events. Celebration open to all
The South Bridgton Congregational Church is holding a community Christmas celebration beginning at 2 p.m. Dec. 18. All are invited to stop by and enjoy some fine music, warming beverages, holiday treats and good fellowship. The church is located on Fosterville Road, off Route 107, in South Bridgton.
