A Bowdoin College student died on Saturday in his off-campus Brunswick residence, according to a community letter from the college’s president.
The student was 21-year-old Theo Danzig of New York City, a member of the class of 2022.
Brunswick Police Department and other authorities in Cumberland County are investigating the cause of death.
“We are in touch with Theo’s family and are offering our support, and we are providing support to Theo’s housemates. I offer my deepest condolences to his family, his friends and loved ones, and to our students, faculty, staff, and others who knew Theo here at Bowdoin,” wrote Bowdoin College President Clayton Rose in the community letter.
According to the letter, Danzig was working on an honors project at the time of his death. Danzig was also the co-president of the college’s Jewish organization, an associate editor of a student-run comedy magazine and an Outing Club trip leader. He was also a member of both the Ultimate Frisbee team as well as the culinary club, and over the past summer worked as a legal assistant in a local law firm.
“Theo’s death is an unimaginable and devastating loss for his family and loved ones, and also for many on campus. Please pay close attention to your emotional well-being and take advantage of the opportunities to come together with others at this tragic time,” Rose added
Senior Vice President and Dean for Student Affairs Janet Lohmann sent out an additional letter to students on Saturday outlining the available counseling and support services.
