SOUTH PORTLAND — Julia Kratzer and Olivia Bradford scored in a span of 1:17 late in the second half and Cheverus opened its girls’ soccer season Saturday with a 2-0 victory over South Portland.
Kratzer broke the scoreless deadlock with 7:31 remaining.
Emily Bontatibus made three saves for the shutout. South Portland’s Elise Connor stopped 14 shots.
BOYS’ SOCCER
FALMOUTH 6, SANFORD 0: Mason Farr scored the first four goals and Michael Christman got the last two as the Navigators won a season opener in Falmouth.
Christman also assisted on one of Farr’s goals. Charlie Adams, Finn Cameron, Jackson Boyd, Mason Quiet and Ben Pausman each added an assist, while keeper Jalen Angers needed to make just two saves.
Sanford’s Kyle Demers had 10 saves.
FOOTBALL
WINDHAM 47, BRUNSWICK 8: Tate Chork rushed for 81 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries, and Alex Yeaton scored on a blocked punt return and a 48-yard reception as the Eagles cruised past the Dragons in Windham.
Windham quarterback Will Leadbetter completed 5 of 8 of passes for 140 yards and two touchdowns. Dan Mitchell blocked the punt that led to Yeaton’s first touchdown, and Ezra Foster returned a fumble 35 yards for a score.
On defense, Chork made six tackles and Tobias Perkins totaled four tackles and an interception.
Weston Cooper had a 7-yard TD run for Brunswick.
FIELD HOCKEY
BIDDEFORD 9, SANFORD 0: Cece Keller scored four goals and set up another as the Tigers (1-0) defeated the Spartans (1-1) in Biddeford.
Jill McSorley added two goals and two assists, and Jayme Walton got a goal and assist.
Hailey Bedard and Hannah Sonne-Loranger also scored.
Sanford’s Sadie Sweetser made 12 saves.
SCARBOROUGH 8, PORTLAND/DEERING 0: Lili Stone and Anjali Bhatnagar each scored twice as the Red Storm (2-0) beat the Bulldogs (0-2) in Portland.
Scarborough also got goals from Daisy Stone, Lillian Finley, Emma Lally and Nadia Grinyuk.
Portland/Deering goalie Ella Burdin made 33 saves.
FALMOUTH 4, KENNEBUNK 1: Chloe Bush scored twice and set up a goal as the Navigators (1-1) defeated the Rams (1-1) in Falmouth.
Macy Bush and Anna Turgeon also scored for Falmouth. Charlize Kelly and Valerie Rand each notched an assist, and Jenna Nunley made 11 saves.
Kennebunk got on the board with a fourth-quarter goal by Sam McGrath, assisted by Ruby Sliwkowski. Rams goalie Ariana Fourtzialis stopped 13 shots.
BRUNSWICK 7, LINCOLN ACADEMY 0: Sara Coughlin, Amelia Donsbach and Kelsey Sullivan scored two goals apiece as the Dragons (1-0) cruised past the Eagles (0-1) at Newcastle.
Ava Wolverton also scored and Ellie Sullivan had three assists.

SOUTH PORTLAND 3, CHEVERUS/GREATER PORTLAND CHRISTIAN 0: Pearl Friedland-Farley recorded six kills and Ruth Boles had five aces for the Red Riots in a 27-25, 25-20, 25-9 victory over the Stags in South Portland.
MARSHWOOD 3, SANFORD/NOBLE 2: The Hawks rallied after dropping the first two sets to win their season opener at Sanford, 24-26, 20-25, 25-20, 25-17, 15-4.
Sage Study led Sanford with 16 kills to go along with four blocks. Kora Eckelman finished with eight kills and six blocks, Grace Davie had 26 assists and Billi Bruno recorded six digs for Sanford.
