I am so very saddened that Portland is becoming a mini-Boston and that people are being pushed out of Portland to go north just to have some peace and natural beauty around them. My backyard is an absolute oasis, soon to be utter chaos. The wildlife is amazing and simply beautiful, as are the trees and privacy, soon to be gone and replaced by more cars, more noise, more people, more crime, etc., etc., etc.
I am completely and utterly against the Lambert Woods building project on Lambert Street and only see it as a disaster – especially regarding traffic. I hear near crashes daily where I live and constant horns honking and brakes squealing as people run stop signs at busy intersections across from my house. I have also witnessed cars being completely totaled from accidents as well.
I find it all extremely sad and disheartening, and I also see other areas where building would not have such a huge impact on traffic in an already-congested area. Houses are being built upon houses.
Yes, people need to find places to live. Perhaps if Portland hadn’t been so focused on the wealthy invading Munjoy Hill and now the Back Cove area, there would be more middle-income and lower-income housing. Builders and investors only care about one thing, and that is lining their pockets.
