At-large Charter Commission candidate Anthony Emerson was diagnosed with a mild form of autism at a young age. When we worked together last year, Anthony introduced me to the concept of neurodiversity: the growing awareness that autism, dyslexia and ADHD are not necessarily conditions to be treated, but rather different expressions of normal human brain types, with their own strengths and challenges, just like more typical ones.
Anthony often notices details others miss, and he helped me understand aspects of our community, and of myself, that I wouldn’t have noticed on my own. He is truthful and kind-hearted, and he has a great sense of humor.
