GORHAM — The state has plans for a $2 million repaving of Gray Road (Route 202) this summer from Main Street to Little Falls and into Windham to a point just south of Mechanic Street.
The repaving of the heavily used commuter route will be “100%” funded by the Maine Department of Transportation, Gorham Town Manager Ephrem Paraschak said week.
The project begins at the Gray Road intersection with Main Street (Route 25) in Gorham and runs 3.76 miles to a point just south of Mechanic Street in Windham. It does not include the Deguio Mill Bridge that was rebuilt in 2017 for $1.7 million.
The state will advertise for construction bids in March, according to a letter to Paraschak from LaRay Hamilton, a senior DOT project manager in Region 1. Hamilton did not return American Journal calls this week before the newspaper’s deadline.
A specific date for the project start has not been determined.
Gorham’s Little Falls Recreation area and community center at Old Robie School are located on Gray Road. The Lakes Region Senior Center is located at the Little Falls Activity Center on Acorn Street off Gray Road, and Gorham Recreation Department has summer programs for children at the activity center.
Timing of the work has not yet been determined.
“I’m going to hope nights,” Gorham Recreation Director Cindy Hazelton said this week.
