ALBANY, N.Y. — Meg Flatley had a hat trick, Lindsey Nerbonne added two goals and two assists, and the University of New Hampshire pulled away to a 5-2 win over the University of Maine on Thursday afternoon, dealing the Black Bears a loss in the America East Conference field hockey semifinals for the seventh straight season.
The third-seeded Wildcats (9-11) took control with three unanswered second-half goals. Nerbonne scored the tiebreaker in the 46th minute.
The second-seeded Black Bears (10-10) held leads of 1-0 and 2-1 in the first 10 minutes on goals by Annabelle Hamilton and Danielle Aviani, but Flatley answered each time. She tied the game at 2 at 11:40.
UMASS-DARTMOUTH 1, USM 0: Emily Anderson scored from 7 yards 10:18 into overtime, lifting the third-seeded Corsairs (12-10) over the No. 7 Huskies (9-13) in a Little East Conference semifinal at North Dartmouth, Massachusetts.
Amanda Kasbohm made 10 saves for Southern Maine, which was outshot, 20-7. Liz St. Germaine had three saves for UMass-Dartmouth.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
MAINE 98, HUSSON 58: The Black Bears pulled away late in an exhibition win at Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.
Garet Beal scored 26 points in 29 minutes for Maine.
FOOTBALL
(19) CLEMSON 34, WAKE FOREST 20: Artavis Scott took a touch pass from Cole Stoudt 68 yards for the go-ahead touchdown with 10:53 left, and Clemson pulled away at Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Stoudt finished 27 of 42 for 282 yards with three touchdowns – two to Scott, one to Wayne Gallman – and Gallman added a late rushing score to help the Tigers (7-2, 6-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) win their sixth straight.
John Wolford was 11 of 29 with two touchdown passes to Cam Serigne, covering 4 and 14 yards, for Wake Forest (2-7, 0-5).
