SIDNEY — Four young children were safely evacuated when started in a daycare center on Reynolds Hill Road at midday Wednesday.

Crews from six fire departments were called to the fire at Jen’s Day Care at 81 Reynolds Hill Road shortly after noon.

The evacuated children were taken to an undisclosed location while firefighters worked to bring the fire in the single-story, ranch-style building under control.

Flames could be seen shooting from the right rear of the building shortly after firefighters arrived. Fire crews responded from Sidney, Augusta, Belgrade, Oakland, Rome and Smithfield.

Augusta Deputy Fire Chief Dave Groder said no injuries were immediately reported. The owner of the day care center is Jennifer Brunelle, according to Groder.

As firefighters continued to pour water on the building, Groder said the cause of the fire was not immediately apparent.

Smoke from the fire was visible from Waterville and Augusta.
