ROCKLAND

The Farnsworth Art Museum on Saturday will host a bookbinding workshop at the museum’s Gamble Education Center. The program will be led by multi- media artist and teacher Cynthia McGuirl, and will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

In this workshop, participants will create their own sketchbook. Bookbinding techniques such as accurate folding, hand sewing, measuring and gluing will be taught. Students will be provided with all materials for a 44 page 6.75 x 8.25 inch hardcover sketchbook, and will go home with instructions for making and figuring their own hardcover journals.

Cynthia McGuirl is a multimedia artist and teacher. She recently exhibited handmade books of her original etchings and marble embossed copper and paper in “Handmade Artists’ Books: One of A Kind” at the Maine Fiberarts Gallery in Brunswick and the ‘ Book Arts Bazaar’ at the Center for Book Arts at the University of Southern Maine. Examples of her work are available at the website cynthiamotianmcguirl.com. The fee for this program is $75, or $63 for Farnsworth members and includes a $15 materials fee.
