Born in Bath, ME, on August 7, 1924, Joe was a son of Allan and Katharine ( Torrey) Spear. He is the husband of the late Maureen T. Sullivan whom passed away in1979.
Mr. Spear served in the United States Navy from 1940-1944 as a Tin Can Sailor, Joe escorted Destroyers around the world. He was employed by Western Electric in Albany as a telephone system installer. Mr. Spear is a 36 year member of A. A. He was an avid fisherman in earlier years.
Survivors include his children, Donna (Frank) Izzo of Mechanicville, Katharine Spear of Richmond, ME, Joseph T. (Claudia) Spear of Phippsburg, ME, James A. (Scott) Spear of Troy, Mary Ellen Spear of Bath, ME and Benjamin P. (Debbie) Spear of Stillwater, a brother, Donald A. (Eleanor) Spear of Portland ME and his grandchildren, MaryKate Patenaude of Valley Falls, Anthony J. Izzo of Clifton Park, Carol Jean Reece of Phippsburg, ME, Maureen Craney of West Bath, ME, Chuck Reece of Phippsburg, ME, Christine Spear of Waltham, MA and Billy Phillips of Phippsburg, ME. Also survived by eight great grandchildren, a special niece and nephew Amy Spear of Portland, ME and David A. Spear of Strong, ME as well as his sister-in-law Beth Izzo and her children.
Relatives and friends where call from 11am-1pm on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 729 Hudson Avenue, Stillwater. Funeral service was conducted at 1pm with Rev. Clyde McCaskill, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Stillwater.
