TOPSHAM — Elizabeth L. (More) Hedgpeth, 75 of Topsham passed away on March 11, 2012 at Mid Coast Hospital. She was born April 13, 1936 in Staten Island, New York to John and Margaret ( Laughlin) More.

She graduated from Tottenville High School in 1953 and Notre Dame College in 1957 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology. She went on to teach language arts at the Cathedral School in Portland and taught science at Mr. Ararat High School in Topsham. Mrs. Hedgpeth received the Outstanding Biology Teacher Award in 1983. She later went on to receive a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Maine in 1985. After retiring from teaching in 1996, she opened Pumpkin Pi Crafts and operated it successfully for several years.

In 1959, she married Robert D. Hedgpeth. Mrs. Hedgpeth was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a devout Catholic. She was a lector at St. Andrew’s Parish in Pejepscot Village. Members of her family include her husband of 52 years, Robert D. Hedgpeth of Topsham; two sons, Robert D. Hedgpeth, III of Durham and Michael R. Hedgpeth of Las Vegas, Nevada; a daughter, Susan A. Hedgpeth- More of Topsham, as well as five grandchildren.

There will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, 39 Pleasant Street in Brunswick. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made in memory of Elizabeth M. Hedgpeth to St. John’s Catholic School, 37 Pleasant Street, Brunswick, ME 04011.
