BOWDOINHAM — The Merrymeeting Arts Center’s newest art exhibit opens today and is based on the theme: “Vernal Pools and the First Signs of Spring.”
A reception for the artists and the public runs from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the arts center, 9 Main St. The exhibit will run until April 28.
A drop-in art workshop at the center to create vernal pool critters runs from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the center. A $5 donation per family is requested.
The exhibit will feature works relating to the arrival of spring and all that is green. Artists who will be exhibiting work include Mathew Pierce O’Donnell, Gracia Woodward, Howard Solomon, Eric Glass, Jane Page Conway and others, as well as springtime pieces from the center’s collection of works by Bryce Muir.
Merrymeeting Arts Center encourages art, education and community celebrating the cultural heritage and natural environment of Merrymeeting Bay, a release from the center states. Inspired and guided by the eclectic values of the life and spirit of Bryce Muir, the center “joyfully promotes egalitarianism, whimsy, environmental consciousness, and diversity through its artists, programs and projects,” the release states.
The center is open Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and other hours by appointment. For more information, call Lee Parker at 841-5914 or Peggy Muir at 504-1132.
