Edmonds owned and managed an Usborne Books and More business, consulted as a project co-coordinator at the local nonprofit Women, Work and Community, and designed and facilitated leadership classes and workshops, including recruitment, retention and team building.
While at Illinois Central College, she was awarded both the “Teaching Excellence” and the “Faculty Who Make a Difference” awards.
Edmonds received her master’s degree in education from Bradley University in Peoria, Ill. She is certified in grant writing, Global Career Development Facilitation (GCDI) and Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI).
The program’s mission is “ to improve lives through improved literacy while fostering robust partnerships and strategic alliances with local organizations, agencies and stakeholders for the effective delivery of programs and services to clients,” according to the release.
The Tri-County Literacy program Literacy Volunteers provides literacy services to more than 150 adult learners through one-on-one tutoring sessions and classroom instruction in small groups.
The Read With Me program works in conjunction with local Head Start programs in the area to foster literacy in children. Trained instructors teach parents and caregivers how to read to their preschool children. Studies have shown the reading to children at a young age dramatically improves their performance when they begin school.
