He attended Woolwich schools and was employed at his parents service station at their house and H. P. Small’s Garage in Bath for many years. He entered the U.S. Army during World War II and was employed by Hyde Windless as a security guard for many years. On September 14, 1946 he married Margaret Harriman and continued his employment at Bath Iron Works for 30 years, retiring in 1985. He and his wife have wintered in Florida for many years.
He enjoyed boxing which he did in the Army, boating and camping.
He was a life member of the Masons of Wiscasset, Lincoln Lodge #3, a member of the Bath United Methodist Church in Bath and a life member of the American Legion in Bath.
He was predeceased by his son, Mark J. Sylvester on November 1, 2009, two brothers, William Sylvester and Glendon Sylvester and one sister, Charlotte Carlton.
He is survived by his wife Margaret J. Sylvester of Bath, one grandson, Sean Parker Sylvester and his wife Wendy of Wiscasset, his daughter in law, Victoria Sylvester of West Bath and great grandson, Connor T. Sylvester.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, March 30, 2012 from 6 to 8 PM at Daigle Funeral Home, 819 High Street, Bath. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 PM at the funeral home.
