The event nearly packed Crooker Theater at Brunswick High School and featured an array of local performers vying for prizes and the right to claim the “Hometown Idol” title.
Winners were selected by the audience and judges Josh Davis, Tracey MacLean and Lynn McGhee. The judges chose the winners in seven categories and sent the top three winners to the audience, who voted by ballot for their “Hometown Idol.”
Marc-Aurele’s vocal rendition of “The Show,” by Lenka, which she augmented by playing the ukulele captured first prize. Mt. Ararat High School Senior Julia Nadeau, who sang “What I Did for Love,” placed second.
Second runner-up honors went to The Thornton Singers, who wowed the audience with a spirited rendition of “Ain’t Gonna’ Grieve My Lord No More.”
Taking home additional trophies were Nancy Giveen in the adult vocal solo category; the “Party Girls,” winners of the dance category; and the Brunswick Area Youth Football League Dragon Cheerleaders, who won in the undesignated category.
In addition, each judge chose a deserving performer for a “Judge’s Award” trophy. Taking those honors were Izzy Jorgensen who performed with Robert Rainey on guitar, vocalist Leila Rollins and Erin Duguay who sang “You and I” and accompanied herself on the piano.
Proceeds from the concert benefit the Brunswick Rotary Community Fund. Among the events funded by the club will be a May 19 bicycle safety rodeo and traditional family Fourth of July activities on the Brunswick Mall.
