BATH — Hyde School celebrated its fifth annual Pat Damon Service and Leadership Day on April 11.
The schedule consisted of morning community service projects, followed by lunch and the Pat Damon Service and Leadership Celebration.
“The Pat Damon Service and Leadership Day was established at Hyde School as a way of remembering, honoring, and continuing to highlight the importance of commitment and service to our families, our local communities, our country and the greater world in which we live,” a release from the school states.
This year’s event also marked the launch of a yearlong partnership between the school and the Bath Mobile Food Truck and Hyde School.
“The Pat Damon Service and Leadership Day, now in its fifth year, is a great way for us to both honor Pat’s legacy of service, and to highlight for our students the benefits for all when one person reaches out a hand to help another,” Hyde Head of School Don MacMillan said in the release. “We are very pleased to include as part of this year’s celebration the beginning of an exciting partnership with the Bath Mobile Food Truck.”
During the coming year, Hyde School’s students, faculty and staff will volunteer at the monthly food truck and take part in several fundraising events to support the local program that offers free food to families in the Mid-coast region.
The award’s namesake, Patrick D. Damon, a Maine native, graduated in Hyde School’s class of 1984.
“Damon lived a life of service and commitment to others, working tirelessly, unselfishly and with humility to make a difference in any capacity in which he served,” the release states.

A captain in the Maine Army National Guard, 240th Engineer Company, he died June 15, 2006, in Afghanistan.
“Pat Damon personified the values that the Hyde community seeks to live and learn every day,” the release concludes.
