The Thornton Oaks Art Committee will open “Painting Photo Synthesis,” an exhibit featuring the art of Jennifer Novelli and Sarah Fisher, on June 8 at 4 p.m. This show includes photography, as well as paintings in a variety of mediums. Both artists will discuss their work and answer audience questions.

Novelli grew up on the coast of Maine and graduated from the University of Maine with her BA in Studio Art. Her acrylic paintings are primarily still lifes and landscapes. She has recently taken up landscape photography.

“In both painting and photography, I am most interested in offering an emotion and setting a mood, rather than depicting the facts,” Novelli said.

Fisher came to focus on watercolor painting in an indirect way — from a career-long profession conserving fine art paintings. She was Head of Painting Conservation at the National Gallery in Washington, DC for 20 years and Senior Painting Conservator for the gallery for ten years prior to that.

“The unpredictability of the watercolor medium has appealed to me all my life and I have been painting in it sporadically since my undergraduate days,” Fisher said.

The public is invited to attend this free event. The exhibit remains open to the public during select times through July. Thornton Oaks is located at 25 Thornton Way, in Brunswick. Call (207) 729- 8033 for available viewing times after opening night.
