Freeport Players has teamed up with local businesses for buy local concessions in 2016. Audiences can purchase products from local vendors Vintage Maine Kitchens, SPüN, Wicked Whoopies and Coffee By Design during intermissions at the Players’ main stage productions this season.

According to Managing/Artistic Director Elizabeth Guffey, there has been interest in all-local concessions for some time.

“We have featured local products and home-made baked goods at shows in the past, and they were very well received,” she said. “This is the first time we’ve tried having all our offerings from local vendors. Our onstage effort is all local; we’re excited to extend that local focus to our concessions booth.”

Vintage Maine Kitchen

Vintage Maine Kitchen makes small-batch potato chips at their kitchen in Freeport using fresh Maine ingredients. Their motto is “Local, Fresh, Natural and Simple.” Their Maine Maple and Maine Sea Salt chips are sold all over New England, including at Bow Street Market in Freeport.

SPüN

SPüN’s made-to-order sweets are made in Freeport by baker Don Gaile.

“I’ve always had a passion for food,” she said. “Especially anything containing my three favorite ingredients: sugar, flour and butter.”

SPüN’s menu includes classics like Chocolate Chip Cookies as well as more unusual items like Japanese Cheesecake.

Wicked Whoopies & Coffee By Design

Wicked Whoopies whoopie pies were a hit during the musical “Love & Lobsters” last season, which included a song singing the praises of this local delicacy. To accompany these treats, the Players will be brewing coffee from Portlandbased Coffee By Design. Both Coffee By Design and Wicked Whoopies have storefronts in Freeport.

Freeport Players produces three main-stage productions each year at Freeport Performing Arts Center. The 2016 season includes Neil Simon’s “The Odd Couple (Female Version)” July 14- 31, “ The Complete Works Of Wm. Shakespeare (Abridged)” Sept. 15 – Oct. 2, and their popular variety show “Radio” Dec. 2-4.
