BRUNSWICK — Jeanne Louise (Patten) Whitten died unexpectedly at Midcoast Hospital on June 29th three weeks before her 91st birthday.
She was a resident of the Highlands in Topsham, Maine. She was born in Philadelphia on July 20, 1921. She was the daughter of Helen E. (Patten) and Dr. Clarence A. Patten.
She received her elementary education in Philadelphia public schools and at Lankenau School. Following her father’s death, the family returned to the family’s ancestral Hampden Highlands, Maine home where she was graduated from Hampden Academy. She earned her BA and MA degrees from the University of Maine where she was a Delta Delta Delta sorority member
During the war she worked at the Army Map Service in Washington, DC. She taught school in numerous Maine schools, including Garland Street Junior High School in Bangor where she retired from teaching in 1981. She was active in several educational associations and the Hampden Historical Society.
Her brother Morton C. Patten predeceased her in 2000. She was predeceased also by Hank Cameron, her long time good friend.
Surviving are her brother Robert Patten and wife Stella of Topsham, Maine; and sister in-law, Phyllis Patten of Damariscotta. Also surviving are two nieces, Dr. Deborah Patten of Bath, Lisa Patten of Alameda, California, and nephew James Patten of Newcastle, Maine, and two grandnephews Nicholas and Benjamin Mesrobian.
She loved the great outdoors in Maine especially walking, climbing Mount Katahdin and camping and hiking at Daicey Pond Literature was always a pleasurable agenda. Per her request there will be no services. Her remains have been cremated, and later this summer, there will be a private family gathering in remembrance of Jeanne.
