WISCASSET — Marianmade Lavender Farm in Wiscasset, an events site, is hosting a benefit for the Wiscasset Public Library on September 14 from 5 to 7 p.m. Guests will be entertained by a 19 member band while they sample hors d’oeuvres prepared by local restaurants, and enjoy drinks from a cash bar.

The band, Opus One Big Band, consists of music educators and performers from across Maine, many of whom have been playing together for more than 20 years. The band currently is under the direction of Dale Perkins. The concert in Wiscasset will include popular swing and jazz pieces such as “Misty,” “Satin Doll,” and “In the Mood.” Local actress Suzanne Rankin will serve as master of ceremonies.

In addition, guests can bid on many inviting items at a silent auction. These include an hour plane ride for three, college counseling, yoga lessons, flower arrangements, house and chimney cleaning services, art works, a character named after you in local author Lea Wait’s newest book, a pass for 18 holes of golf, passes to the Wiscasset Community Center, piano entertainment for a party, and a boat ride on the Sheepscot for two including picnic lunch.

Prior to the event, tickets, at $20 per person, can be purchased at the Wiscasset Public Library at 21 High Street in Wiscasset, or at the Maine Coast Bookshop and Cafe in Damariscotta. They will also be available, at $25 per person, the night of the event at the entrance to the farm on 155 Federal Street in Wiscasset. All the monies collected will be used to benefit the Wiscasset Public Library.
