TOPSHAM — Roberta Downes Kolsti, 75, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, Sept. 24, 2014. She was born in Chester, Mass., on Dec. 27, 1939, to Joseph and Lena Downes. She was a graduate of Chester High School and attended the Westfield, Mass., State Teachers College.

In April 1959, Roberta married Weston G. Kolsti and they moved to Huntsville, Ala., where her daughter Jennifer was born. In 1962, the family moved back north to Medfield, Mass., where she resided until moving with her husband to Topsham, Maine, in May 2008.

Roberta was a selfemployed real estate broker from January 1964 to September 1974, then was employed as a medical secretary for a local ophthalmologist until October 1991, when she joined Medical Eye Care Associates in Norwood, Mass., as a medical secretary/ surgical scheduler where she worked until April 2006. Roberta was a longtime active member of the Medfield Republican Town Committee and Medfield Animal Humane Society.

She loved dogs and dog sled racing. For a time she maintained a kennel of five Siberian Huskies which she and her daughter would race in the winter. She was a member of the New England Sled Dog Club, the Pilgrim Doberman Pinscher Club, Inc., the Pharaoh Hound Club of America, and the Framingham District Kennel Club.

She is survived by her husband Weston G. Kolsti of Topsham, ME, and her daughter Jennifer Gilchrist and her husband Barry of Weston, MA, two sisters, Anna Seymour of Glenside, PA, and Catherine Granger of Worthington, MA, brother-inlaw John S. Kolsti and his wife Carol of Austin, TX, cousin Carl Shmider and his wife Mary-Ellen of Chippewa Falls, WI, granddaughter Stephanie Gilchrist of Brookline, MA, grandson Jeffrey Gilchrist of Brighton, MA, nieces Virginia Bluth and her husband Gregory of Colora, MD, Barbara Lavin, of Valrico, FL, Elizabeth Simpson of Bridgeston, NJ, and nephews Christopher Seymour of Chalfont, PA, Joseph Seymour of Baltimore, MD, Peter Kolsti of Austin, TX, and Christopher Kolsti of Fairfax, VA.
