Midcoast Actors’ Studio is getting a leg up for its 2018 season, thanks to a grant from the Maine Arts Expansion Fund of the Maine Community Foundation.
The $4,000 grant will help bring a summer musical theater camp to local children in the greater Midcoast Belfast region, as well as live programming to Bayside.
“MAS is so grateful to have received this grant,” said Jason Bannister, MAS founding artistic director, in a prepared statement. “Our summer youth musical theater camps have become quite popular in the area, and this grant will help ensure we can continue to offer this to our community.”
Midcoast Actors’ Studio was founded in 2012 with a mission to foster an environment for artists to imagine and grow freely, create quality intimate theater, and inspire our community. It was voted the best theater in Waldo County for 2017 and recently performed two wonderful productions of “Frankenstein” and “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” at the recently reopened Crosby Center in downtown Belfast.
MAS will present its full 2018 season at the Crosby, including “Peter and the Starcatcher” (May 11-20), “Cabaret” (Aug. 3-12), “The Crucible” (Oct. 26-Nov. 4), and “The Snow Queen” (Dec. 13-16).
The “Snow Queen” production will also be available for school tours and workshops in December.
The MAS Summer Youth Musical Theater Junior Camp (ages 7-13) will run June 25-29 with “Seussical: KIDS,” while the senior camp runs July 2-14 with “Sweeney Todd: SCHOOL EDITION.”
