The following is a schedule of events for January at Curtis Memorial Library, 23 Pleasant St., Brunswick. The library will be closed Jan. 1 and 2. All programs are free and open to the public.
Ongoing or Weekly Events
• Collaboratory Interactive Displays: Words into Pictures: Children’s Book Illustrations Through mid-January
A celebration of the power of illustration to bring stories to life. For all ages.
• Much Ado About Shakespeare Jan. 17 through Feb. 25
Discover Shakespeare’s world and Elizabethan England. Play a trivia game and explore the language of the time through word play. Perform a play with puppets and paper dolls, make a jester’s cap or fair wings, plus many more fun Shakespearethemed activities.
• Craft Meetup Mondays 4:30–6:30 p.m.
All skill levels are most welcome and beginners will be able to get advice from members with more experience.
• Gather Round for Stories Tuesdays 10:30-11 a.m.
Join one of the library’s volunteers for stories old and new.
• Fandom Club at BHS Tuesdays, 2:15-3:15 p.m.
Geek out with games, books, maker materials, movies; each week is something different. Discussing “The Novice” by Taran Matharu on Jan. 3. Co-hosted by Daurene Jerome, BHS Librarian, and Melissa Orth, Teen Librarian at Curtis Memorial Library. Homeschoolers are welcome. Takes place at Brunswick High School.
• Story Time Wednesdays 10:30-11:30 a.m.
Stories, songs and activities for preschoolers. Promotes early literacy through reading, writing, talking, playing and singing. Suggested ages 2-4.
• BJHS 7th & 8th Grade Book Club Wednesdays, 2:45-3:30 p.m.
Open to any 7th or 8th grade Brunswick Junior High School or home schooled student. This month the group will be discussing movie adaptations so come with suggestions. Bring your own snacks. Takes place at Brunswick Junior High School.
• Tech Wizards are in Thursdays 10 a.m. to noon
Drop in technology help. Reference desk, second floor.
• Current Events Forum Thursdays noon to 1 p.m.
Discussion of current events, open to the public.
• BJHS 6th Grade Book Club Thursdays, 2:45-3:30 p.m.
Open to any 6th grade Brunswick Junior High School or home schooled student. Share, compare and discuss your favorite books. This month’s book is “The Screaming Staircase” by Jonathan Stroud. Bring your own snacks. Takes place at Brunswick Junior High School.
• Fireside Writers Group Fridays 10-11:30 a.m.
Writing group led by Molly McGrath, Director of Publications at the Telling Room. All ages and abilities welcome. 1904 Building.
• Google Earth Wizard Hours Fridays, starting Jan. 13, 10 a.m. to noon
Local expert Craig Snapp will answer your Google Earth questions. Study room 204.
• Music Fun with Miss Teresa Fridays 10:30-11:15 a.m.
Lively songs, rhythms and movement with Teresa Gillis, followed by playtime. Supports early literacy development and a love of music, and it’s fun! For babies and toddlers and their caregivers.

• Just Desserts Mystery Discussion Group Tuesday Jan. 3 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Monthly mystery discussion group. Join us to discuss “The Zig Zag Girl,” first in the Magic Men series by Elly Griffiths. Everyone who has read the book and would like to discuss it is welcome to attend meetings.
• Tech Meetup Friday Jan. 6, noon to 1 p.m.
Technology help the first Friday of the month. This month, learn how to use Advanced Microsoft Word functions.
• Lego Club Saturday Jan. 7, 10:30 a.m. to noon
Join other creative kids for a session of building and fun, and try a special challenge. The library has thousands of blocks to share. All ages are welcome.
• Monday Afternoon Book Group Monday Jan. 9, 1-2 p.m.
Monthly book group. Discussing “The Notorious RBG: The Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg” by Irin Carmon and Shana Knizhnik. Everyone who has read the book and would like to discuss it is welcome to attend meetings.
• Another Time, Another Place Science Fiction Book Group Thursday Jan. 12, 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Monthly science fiction book discussion group. This month the group will discuss “Ready Player One” by Ernest Cline. Everyone who has read the book and would like to discuss it is welcome to attend meetings.
• Joshua Chamberlain Civil War Round Table Thursday Jan. 12, 7-9 p.m.
Monthly meeting of the Civil War Roundtable. Public is invited.
• I’ll Read Anything Book Group Wednesday, Jan. 18, 1-2 p.m.
Monthly book group led by director Liz Doucett. This month the group will discuss “The Mountaintop School for Dogs and Other Second Changes” by Ellen Cooney. Anyone who has read the book and would like to discuss it is welcome to attend meetings.
• Musical Toddler Gathering with Benji Monday Jan. 30, 10:30 a.m.
Benji Latham visits Brunswick for a session of music and fun.
